School readiness is defined by factors at home, at school, and in the community. Socio-economic realities and access to childcare are reliably unequitable and have a great impact on a child’s success in kindergarten and beyond. Data from the U.S. Census Bureau, Virginia Department of Education, and assessments like the Virginia Kindergarten Readiness Program (VKRP) help describe the early education landscape in terms of opportunity gaps apparent in our region. This data helps inform the work of our Ready Region’s initiatives and guides us in decision-making towards more equitable outcomes.
